Gandia...
Gandia is in the heart of La Safor District in the Valencian Community. It has a privileged location between the sea and the mountains. Its
environs exude a rich historical
culture which anoints its monuments and its inhabitants. This is one of
the greatest appeals of the city and it is should satisfy the most demanding of
Costa Blanca visitors all the year round.
The town of Gandia isn't normally regarded a tourist destination but is a lively, working town, well worth a few hours away from the beach to take a stroll around as it does have a few interesting
things to see. The 14th century Palacio Ducal de los Borja is its number one tourist attraction but you can
only take guided tours in Spanish with a printed explanation in English. The tours are every half hour with
a break for lunch between 1pm and 4pm in winter and 5pm in summer. The church in Placa Major is definitely worth
a visit.
The port and beaches at Gandia deny it credit for
the excellence it offers and it is hard to see how it has escaped the attention
of tourists. The people are friendly and the facilities are second to none
in Spain. The shopping leaves nothing to be desired and with history,
culture and regular fiestas, it has just about everything!
Whatever your expectations of Spain, this area is
well worth a second look and if you're willing to look inland a few kilometres,
you might find exactly what you want!
